Wewahitchka And The Dead Lakes

Wewahitchka is located in northern Gulf County and is best known for two of its unique assets, the Dead Lakes and Tupelo Honey. Tupelo Honey is harvested from White Tupelo Gum trees which are prosperous in the Dead Lakes and the Apalachicola River Basin. Beekeepers have been riding barges for years following the bees up and down the waterways. The Dead Lakes offer an abundance of great fishing for largemouth bass, crappie, shellcracker, bream, and catfish, and a unique opportunity for nature photographers as the hundreds of cypress trees, both live and dead, give the lake a hauntingly beautiful look.
